something I’ve said a few times before (and something I think very often) is:

When you show up for your practice, your practice shows up for you.

In my experience, when I started a daily personal practice (this could be meditation or something else), I showed up for it everyday. It wasn’t hours and hours, it was (and still is) a few minutes everyday. But what I noticed is that as I showed up for my meditation practice in those few minutes each day, my practice would show up for me in different ways, almost surprising me, outside of my practice.

What I mean by that is, as I showed up for my practice everyday, with an intention to cultivate clarity and calmness, I found that in difficult or charged moments outside of my practice, those qualities became more accessible to me. In stressful moments, I had a deeper access to calmness that wasn’t there before. In confusing or time sensitive situations, I had more access to clarity (mental and emotional) than I did previously.

I showed up for my practice, and my practice showed up for me.

In today’s akashic transmission, the Keepers of the Akashic Records take this one step further and say:

What you show up for, is also showing up for you.

That is to say, when we devote ourselves to something (intentionally or without realizing it) that thing is also devoting itself to us.

Think about what it feels like to be devoted to something. In my experience, I’ve often described being devoted as pouring yourself into something, and this is a phrase many people use. “She poured her heart into that painting/book/family/relationship etc.” Another way to say that is she was devoted to that thing.

If we think of being devoted to something as pouring ourselves into it – Pouring our essence, our vitality, our energy, our time, our inner and outer resources into it – that means there is space inside us that then needs to be filled back up. The thing you are pouring your essence into, is also pouring its essence into you.

Maybe this feels a little scary to you. This perspective immediately invites the inquiry: What am I devoting myself to? And that’s the invitation today, to contemplate what you are already showing up for.

It could be that you are unconsciously devoted to something, maybe you’re showing up for something with devotion so effortlessly that you don’t even recognize it as being devoted to something. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This inquiry is not meant to be an invitation to judge or shame yourself for whatever you are or are not devoted to.

It’s simply meant to invite in awareness, to help you recognize and become aware of how you are already investing your time and energy. It’s not just about what you wish you were devoted to, but what you are already devoting yourself to.

Through this recognition and awareness, we are then given the freedom to make an intentional choice. If we don’t even realize what we’re devoting ourselves to, we can’t decide whether we want to continue or not. But when we are aware of what we are already doing, we can then freely and intentionally decide whether we want to continue devoting ourselves to that thing, or if we want to change what we are devoting ourselves to.

Again, it’s not about shaming yourself or feeling bad about what you’re devoting yourself to (maybe you’ll be really delighted and even proud of what you’ve been devoting yourself to!). It’s just about noticing it, so we can choose again. Through recognition and acknowledgement of our devotion we can choose to either renew and continue our devotional attention OR we can choose to shift where we are devoting our time and energy.

So with that in mind, you can contemplate these two questions in this order:

  1. What am I already devoting myself to?
  2. What do I want to be devoted to?

I’d love to know what you discovered in this contemplation! What are you devoted to in this season of life? If you feel called to share you can comment on the video or send me a message, I’d love to hear from you!

And if you know someone who’d resonate with this perspective, please share this post with them and spread the goodness!
