Many of us want to cultivate self-love, but we don’t know where to begin. The Masters, Teachers, and Loved Ones offer a simple perspective:
Awareness leads to acceptance, acceptance leads to love and compassion.
So perhaps the better question to ask is: how do we cultivate the awareness that leads to acceptance, and eventually love and compassion?
How do we cultivate self-awareness?
Practice.
This is why we meditate. You’re taking time to practice witnessing who you are. All meditation is, is observing. Meditation is simply creating space for your awareness to come to the forefront of your experience; allowing it to shift from the unconscious to the conscious. Your Self (your awareness) is witnessing your mind. And you practice this so that when you’re in the chaos of real-life, you can be quicker at noticing your mind in real-time so you can respond instead of react. The more you practice witnessing your mind, the more self-aware you’ll be. You’ll be able to choose how you want to respond to things because you’ll be aware of yourself in the moment.
That self-awareness naturally gives way to self-acceptance.
The self-acceptance will naturally give way to compassion for the self, and eventually self-love.
And when you cultivate these qualities within yourself, they effortlessly radiate outward to everyone and everything you come into contact with.
There’s nothing you need to do to transform the awareness to acceptance and the acceptance into love. Those all happen on their own. The only one that takes practice to cultivate, is awareness.
